This beauty was found here in Olathe (NE KS) early last November by one of my students. Perhaps this wayfaring waif had a little help from hurricane Gustav? img_4212

  2. You’re too modest! It is indeed a gaudy sphinx (Eumorpha labruscae), which only shows up as a vagrant in this area. I got ID help on this from Holly Davis, Entomology, KSU.

  3. looks like a green gaudy sphinx moth or a hawk moth of some type – at least a moth of the family sphingidae (not very good with insects but that’s my guess!) hint was the hurricane – normally see this in tropical areas
