Planning KABT Field trips: 1 year, 2 months agoGreetings all! Stan suggested Woodson State Lake for the spring fieldtrip April 29-30. I contacted the park manager and they have plenty of space in their primitive campground. Cross Timbers area is about 5 mi. away and sounds like a very diverse area with potential for hiking. Does anyone have ideas for program content or potential facilitators?

Planning KABT Field trips: 1 year, 3 months agoI agree with most of what has already been said by Brad and Harry, so some of my comments will be repetitive but at least in that case others may know what things are appreciated by all…
- I have enjoyed every field trip that I have participated in and in those cases where I couldn’t participate I knew that I was missing something valuable.

Planning KABT Field trips: 1 year, 4 months agoI will say that, personally, the thing I valued most about KABT field trips was a chance to learn from others who knew more than me. Though I was interested in the specifics of each field trip as shared by trip leaders, I second Brad’s comments about time to get off in small groups. I know I learned as much wildflower identification, natural…[Read more]

Planning KABT Field trips: 1 year, 4 months agoSome random observations about “successful” field trips from my perspective.
Camping is good. It seems that camping out in the area of the field trip really helps to make connections–with each other and the local enviornment. The first thoughts that come to mind are sitting around the campfires as we wait for the different…[Read more]

Planning KABT Field trips: 1 year, 4 months agoAs I was driving home on Saturday from the board meeting, my mind got to rambling. One of the rambles focused on KABT field trips. It occurred to me that all of us have different ideas of what we consider to be successful trips or trips that we would want to attend. I thought over the years to the field trips I’ve been on and organized and…[Read more]

We did the floating disk assay today in a 42 minute 9th grade general biology.
Students all (just barely) had data at the end of the period. They were did not have time to draw graphs and we were not able to talk about the ET50 number but during the timing phase of the procedure I was able to circulate to some lab groups and…[Read more] -

PreService Biology Teachers at KU: 1 year, 6 months agoHere’s a list of resources I got from Brad. I needed to type up a resource list for a class so I just used Brad’s suggestions. Anyway it’s the site, and what I thought of it (I have only spent a limited amount of time on each site, so bare that in mind). If you have any you would like to add please feel free!

That is cool William…Glad you got it to work out. 42 minutes is a stretch—if only you’d had 5 more minutes.
