Partnered with a local  APS member scientist, fellows do hands-on research for 7-8 weeks during the  summer, as well as explore and practice teaching methods that integrate inquiry,  equity and the Internet into their classrooms. The fellowship concludes with a  trip to a scientific conference in 2009 in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">New Orleans<\/st1:city>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Louisiana<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>. Awardees receive a stipend of up to  $8500 over the fellowship year that includes travel and a mini-grant for  classroom materials.
