Shunga Bioblitz<\/p>\n
About<\/p>\n
TAS is hosting the first Topeka area Bioblitz in the parks along Shunga
\nCreek in southwest Topeka. It will take place on April 16, 2011 from 6am to
\n11pm (park hours). TAS would like to see this event bring together all
\npeople who have an interest in biological diversity. You can participate for
\nany amount of time on the day of the event.<\/p>\n
What is a Bioblitz<\/p>\n
A BioBlitz is a study where a group of volunteers conduct a one day
\nintensive biological inventory, attempting to identify and record all
\nspecies of living organisms in a given area. Some types of organisms we hope
\nto inventory: Plants, Fungus, Insects, Spiders, Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish,
\nBirds, and Mammals<\/p>\n
Bioblitz Location<\/p>\n
The bioblitz will take place in a complex of parks along Shunga Creek in
\nsouthwest Topeka. This Complex of parks includes Wells Park, Warren Nature
\nArea, and Big Shunga Park. Shunga Creek runs through the south edge of the
\narea. There is a wetland in the center of Warren Nature Area. Woodlands are
\nmostly along the creek and grasslands are found north of the creek. The
\ntotal area is estimated to be about 300 acres.The area is bordered by Gage
\nBlvd on the west, the VA & KNI on the north, Macvicar on the east, and 29th
\nStreet on the south. \u00a0Meet at the Felker Park Parking Lot, 2540 SW Gage
\nBlvd.<\/p>\n
