Hello to all with an interest in attending the Periodic Round Table Book
\ndiscussion on April 7th.<\/strong> We will be discussing the book, At the Water’s
\nEdge: fish with fingers, whales with legs, and how life came ashore and
\nthen went back to the sea by Carl Zimmer. It is a fascinating
\nexplanation of two of the most dramatic evolutionary transitions in the
\nhistory of life on Earth. I hope that you are enjoying the book as much
\nas I am.<\/p>\n

If you’d like to learn about what has been discovered since the book was
\npublished, check out Carl Zimmer’s suggested articles from his blog.
\nSome relevant articles are listed, along with additional links, on a web
\npage that we’ve prepared about the book.<\/p>\n

I am developing a list of potential discussion questions. If this list
\nwill be sent to those who’ve registered a few days before the
\ndiscussion. If you have some questions that you’d like added to this
\nlist, let me know.<\/p>\n

Most of Zimmer’s chapters are quite readable individually. For those
\nwithout time to read the whole book, I recommend reading chapters 1 and
\n2 to learn more about how land animals evolved from fish or chapters 5,
\n6 and 7 for an introduction to the return of mammals to the sea.<\/p>\n
