{"id":3875,"date":"2012-08-05T20:44:25","date_gmt":"2012-08-06T01:44:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kabt.org\/?p=3875"},"modified":"2012-08-06T06:38:33","modified_gmt":"2012-08-06T11:38:33","slug":"azolla-anyone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kabt.org\/?p=3875","title":{"rendered":"Azolla anyone?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While trying to find some swamp milkweed and some monarchs out at the Baker Wetlands, I happened to notice the canal&#8217;s normal lush duckweed population was turning spotty and brown.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8282\/7720710792_fe6c175a61_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I said to Carol that I think that is Azolla&#8211;a water fern. \u00a0Azolla is a nitrogen fixer through a symbiotic interaction with a cyanobacteria. \u00a0I got down closer and took a look.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7122\/7720702146_b9118db83e_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the image above you can see a few duckweed fronds along with a bunch of water meal or &#8220;Wolffia&#8221;
