What a Gas!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Storyline Unit<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Jesi Rhodes and I presented “Cow Farts and Global Warming: What a Gas!” to the 2021 KABT Fall conference. If you didn’t get a chance to look at all the resources & video archive that Drew Ising (conference co-chair and KABT social media chair) posted, I wanted to make sure you knew they were there. Check out the Kansas Association of Biology Teachers” FB group. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PLUS, we wanted to directly share our “Cow Farts” with everyone. Fermentation, digestion, greenhouse gases, engineering practices\/solving global emissions, comparative anatomy, ecology and more! I’m a new convert to storylining – big fan of the student driven practices!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overview:
\nWhat a gas! Opening with the anchoring phenomena of cow gas accumulating in a barn causing an explosion, there are many avenues of science for the students to investigate. This storyline presents the steps and resources for students which incorporate digestion, enteric fermentation, and greenhouse gases. Many additional optional topics are addressed such as phylogeny, comparative anatomy, alcoholic\/lactic acid fermentation, career possibilities, macromolecules, agriculture practices, food webs, climate change \u2013 and more!
