color: #000000; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">I&#8217;ve been asked if I would post my AP Biology Syllabus, so for what it&#8217;s worth, here it is.\u00a0 I&#8217;m rather detailed in it &#8211; it helps the students see where they&#8217;re going but more importantly keeps me to the pace I find I need to maintain in order for them to be ready for the test in May (and helps to make up for my poor memory).\u00a0 By the way, what I&#8217;ve attached here is what I call my teacher edition of the syllabus.\u00a0 It contains details I don&#8217;t\u00a0include in\u00a0the students&#8217; version\u00a0&#8211; like exactly which essay it is they will be writing and when I plan to order flies, etc.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kabt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/ap-biology-syllabus-te-2008-09.doc\">AP Biology Syllabus &#8211; Teacher Edition<\/a><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12.5pt; color: #000000; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; color: #000000; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\">I start out working deeply in the concepts and use the 7th edition of Campbell&#8217;s <em><span style=\"font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\">Biology<\/span><\/em> for this.\u00a0 However,\u00a0just before the end of the semester as I&#8217;m moving into molecular genetics and biotechnology,\u00a0I switch to Campbell&#8217;s <em><span style=\"font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\">Concepts and Connections.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 I feel lucky to have access to copies of both books for my students due to the fact that our school separates AP Biology from our dual enrollment College Biology course (AP students still have the option of dual enrollment in addition to taking the AP exam).\u00a0 Finally as we near the finish line (the AP exam) in late April, I switch to Cliff&#8217;s <em><span style=\"font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\">AP Biology<\/span><\/em> exam prep book, which we cover in its entirety.\u00a0 This helps us review and fill in a few gaps.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12.5pt; color: #000000; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; color: #000000; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\">You will note we generally do quizzes and exams on weekends via Blackboard.\u00a0 I do this to free class time for learning.\u00a0 I also usually schedule 6-8\u00a0lab sessions on weekends through the year.\u00a0 Anyone who wants to\u00a0know more about\u00a0either of these\u00a0can feel free to contact me &#8211; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">As you all know, the challenge with AP is teaching the students enough material while at the same time doing enough labs and critical thinking activities to help them build the confidence, skills, and knowledge to be successful on the exam.\u00a0 I also want to do this while nurturing their love of biology.\u00a0 Putting them under so much pressure that they leave hating biology or science would be a huge failure in my mind.\u00a0 This is my ninth year teaching AP Biology and I&#8217;ve been a reader of the exams the last two years.\u00a0 My students have very good success on the exams (usually averaging around 4 with ALL students in the class taking the exam) but I&#8217;m always tweaking my schedule and approach, striving to maintain and improve.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12.5pt;
